Facility Management Software and APIs

We represented a privately-held software development company against a competitor’s claims for breach of contract, violation of the N.C. Trade Secrets Act, federal Computer Fraud and Abuse and N.C. Computer Trespass Act, unjust enrichment, tortious interference with contractual relations, and violation of North Carolina’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The case involved the alleged misuse of a competitor’s API and copying of source code to develop a competing facility management software product in the self-storage industry. There were a number of complex issues to be investigated and explained to the court in a simple, easily understood manner. In addition, there was extensive discovery involving the analysis of source code, customer records, and financial documents. My team ultimately developed strong factual and legal defenses based upon our extensive knowledge and understanding of the underlying code, technology, and related law. The case was ultimately resolved successfully and confidentially after the pre-trial filing of summary judgment motions.
